So it's National Day. 43 huh?
Yesterday was the National Day celebrations in school. Yeah sure it was more event packed, but that didn't make it more fun. I hate celebrations. It's so damn awkward to be alone at the back of the parade square when everyone's just shrieking their head off. You just feel like an idiot. And someone stole my Party poppers. EURGH. I,Serene Low, vow never to get involved in bloody celebrations ever again unless I really love the people around and the cause. It's uncomfortable. It doesn't mean I don't like to have fun, it's just no one ever...cares to see me have any fun. It doesn't feel natural. You feel like you're an intruder in this rave. You don't know the people, the people have formed judgements, and you're partying to celerate the birthday of this country you have no love for...

So I just watched Blade runner, which I bought at the Borders sale yesterday, which sucked. Got the damn DVD for 20 bucks. Not much of a sale innit?
But Thankfully the movie was interesting, although I still haven't quite got the gist of it. It's really bleak actually, very different from the older films I was used to watching. After watching this, it's quite easy to see why audiences didn't really bite down on it, as it depicted a really desolate 2019(We'll be 27 at that time), and I don't think that people wanted to be told that their lives are only going to take a turn for the worse in the near future. Also, I think it's because it's a very, very probable future, as bleak and dark as it may seem, and people hated it because it hit a little close to home. They know it will happen, but they're not ready to admit and submit themselves to a miserable existence. This movie's just a big slap in the face for people. That's why they went for the happier films at that time.
But now, the movie's starting to gain recognition as a masterpiece, probably because with all the white, beaming lies the World leaders are telling us, you know, the cliche "This is for a brighter future, what we're doing is right", it's just refreshing to see a film that shows the future for what it will ultimately become, should we continue blindly living our lives and ignore the environmental and social issues. Sure you know, it's unlikely we'll have flying cars, but the replucants in the film are very much a probability, I mean, there have already been speculations of a robot spouse, and now we have robot teachers, robot partners. To create artificial humans capable of emotion is only a matter of time. The extinction of plant and animal life in the movie is a warning of what would eventually happen if Homo Sapiens continue with our disregard for nature. The constant darkness in the movie is probably caused by the toxic pollutants people are constantly emitting, even though everyone is more than aware of the environmental crisis.
Deckard's cold and heartless personality is a reflection of us in 2019, maybe sooner, as more and more people are starting to detach themselves from their empathetic side in the 21st century. All it takes is a little push.
Wait a minute, I guess I did understand the film.
